Hockey Australia President Melanie Woosnam today congratulated John Coates AC on the extension to his term on the International Olympic Committee.
Woosnam said “On behalf of the Board and staff of Hockey Australia, I congratulate John Coates AC on the extension to his term on the IOC. John’s involvement and impact on Olympic sport continues to be significant not only for the Olympic movement, but also for Australian sport and is valued by all of the Hockey community.”
The IOC decision was taken in recognition of the important role Mr Coates plays as Chair of the Legal Affairs Commission. Mr Coates acknowledged the vote saying “I appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve you and I appreciate the confidence,” Mr Coates said.
While Mr. Coates' term as AOC President concludes at the AOC Annual General Meeting in May 2021, the extension of his individual IOC membership means he will continue as a full voting member of the AOC Executive until end 2024.
